Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.
Calvary came into existence because of prayerful pleading to God by a small group of believers in Jesus Chirst. In answer to prayer, God exalted His name by bringing to Lockport Pastor and Mrs. Albert (Eleanor) Williams. They were Baptist Missionaries serving God by faith in America.
CBC was organized as a church on March 27, 1952, as a New Testatement Baptist Church after two months of prayer by ten adults, four teens, and three guests. They used the theme of "Launching Out" from Luke 5:1-7 in obeying God's word: the new endeavor for His glory. The new church met in homes of various members until renting room for Sunday use in downtown Lockport. It was another answer to prayer.
In April 1954 two lots were bought at our present location. The ground breaking was held in May of 1956; and on a Wednesday evening in November 1956, their first service was held in the new building--- a prayer service!
CBC commissioned its first missionary family in 1959--John and Una Hughes. The church's first ordination, also in 1959, was of Jess Eaton to the Gospel ministry. In May of 1982 a building committee was established to oversee the building of our present facility. In 2002 the church established a building committee to make proposals for the future of our present facility and ministry at CBC. In the year 2004, we stepped out on faith and purchased a piece of land on Lincoln Ave Extension, a short distance from our present building. We are excited about the future that God has planned for us!
Pastor Lewis Manwarren arrived here at Calvary in 1994. Many of us can tell you how the Lord has used him to bring our daily walk closer to Christ. His love for the Lord and tender heart toward the people is such a blessing! His wife, Barb, is a great asset to this ministry. You can see her leading the "Patch" club, leading Ladies Bible studies, using her flute regularly in the music ministry and singing in the choir. What a busy lady! We are so happy that the Lord directed them to our church and appreciate all that they do.
